Schools Out!

I love New York. I love the naked, seething, ambition of its inhabitants (not excluding yours truly of course) and all of the accompanying dysfunction. And most of all, I love the fact that its practically impossible to simply tread water in this town. Here, one has to learn to form desire and then work towards fulfilling it. The work is the easy part really, long hours notwithstanding. The trick it seems, lies in the wanting.

As for me, I must admit that my wants haven't really changed all that much after three years of grad school. A nice apartment, financial security, fantastic clothes and perhaps a cat (I'm thinking a british shorthair) will do me just fine thanks. That said, with real estate on Manhattan now costing in excess of $3000 a square foot, $4500 bespoke suits, $3000 Prada bags and this $12,000 desk that I've fallen in love with

it looks like I've got my work cut out for me. In the mean time however, I've been indulging in simpler pleasures that the city has to offer. I managed to score a ticket to see Bjork at the Apollo theater in Harlem on Tuesday. It was the perfect end to a rather grueling 3 weeks of end-of-semester madness. She had lasers, crazy outfits, a 10 piece all female brass section, three people working computers and percussion and someone tinkling on the harpsichord. The concert was amazing, ridiculous and absolutely mesmerizing. The highlights included a beautiful, sweeping arrangement of All Is Full of Love and an old school rave out to Pluto. All in all, a pretty bloody awesome evening.

I'm slowly collecting he necessary ingredients and props for a Voodoo ritual to bring Bjork out to Australia. Who's in? Don't fear summoning ancient demon spirits, I've been in touch with Ghostbusters.
