Inspiration - The Return of Jon's Catwalk Report!
So I realize that I've been rather remiss in keeping up with the regular posting. But quite frankly, I've been feeling a little flat and uninspired the past few weeks. So much so that I haven't worked up the motivation to really say or do anything. In short, life has been so full of recent uncertainty and setbacks that I've felt the need to retreat into a fortress of solitude of sorts. But something invariably comes along to provoke one's imagination and it happened today. After a season of indifferent fashion, save the odd brilliant couture show here and there, the start of the Paris shows has yielded some genius in the form of Rick Owens
Now those of you know me are well aware of my penchant for highly conceptual and unforgiving fashion and while it is true that the pieces are pretty out there, they still feel - to me at the very least - incredibly contemporary and relevant. I am transfixed by the hard edged romanticism of the leather peplums flowing down the side of a slouchy boot, the lean, yet rugged shapes and of course the extravagance of a sculpted balloon shape on the back of a silver foil jacket. Moreover, the collection veers away from pastiche and futurism via intelligent use of furs and denim. Instead, a feeling of modernity and a slight sense of foreboding is conveyed, encouraging us to gird ourselves for the months to come.
More fashion week commentary to come! I promise!

Paula Drags America Kicking and Screaming Back To The 80's
It was a simpler time, when pop video choreography was all about jazz ballet and mime. I SO can't wait to try out these moves with the girls in home room tomorrow.
